Winter 2020-2021 Survey Results

Last December, we posted a survey to get to know the people of our electoral district: your concerns, your opinions, and wishes.

Over a hundred people completed the survey. As a result, you have provided us with great insight into how you are doing during the pandemic, what your issues and interests are, and what is important to you as voters. Most questions had an option to add a comment, and respondents submitted almost one hundred comments.

More detailed results are below, but here are some highlights:

  • As of February 2021, about one in 30 people in Quebec has tested positive for COVID-19, and it has affected our community deeply: 55% of respondents know someone who has contracted COVID-19, and 15% of respondents knew one of the over 10,000 people who have died.
  • Most respondents said that the pandemic has had a negative or very negative effect on their physical and, especially, mental health.
  • The opinion of respondents toward the government response is even across the board, with roughly equal numbers feeling confident and worried, and a significant number who feel neither way.
  • Respondent expressed a desire for more talks and discussions about issues, and climate change tops the list of topics.
  • An overwhelming majority of respondents say that the pandemic will not affect whether they vote, but a similar number say it will affect how they vote, with 87% saying that it is somewhat or very likely that they will use alternative voting methods instead of voting on election day.
  • The top three election issues are:
    • climate change / Green New Deal
    • healthcare / pharmacare, and
    • racial and social discrimination.

We will be posting other surveys and planning events based on the results of this first survey on a regular basis.

We also encourage you to contact us with any questions, concerns, ideas, or thoughts at info@villemariendp.ca.

Notes

  • This survey was anonymous, and the questions did not ask for personally identifying information. The responses collected cannot be connected to any personally identifying information not provided by respondents in the course of doing the survey (such as in comments). The NDP privacy policy can be consulted here: NDP Privacy Policy.
  • Not all totals add to 100% due to respondents who skipped that choice, or because some questions allowed for more than one answer.
