Biking and walking on the Lachine Canal all year round!

Good news: a project that our local association advocated for, is seeing the light of day!  The federal government, who is responsible for the Lachine Canal, will now plow the section between downtown and Atwater in the winter. Up to now, the bike path was only usable in the other months.

Many cyclists and pedestrians in our riding have been asking the government to change this policy. Our recent survey showed that 45 percent of our respondents were interested in a public discussion of this issue.  We now must work to open other sections, to the west of Atwater!

To help  out, our Riding Association participated in a shovel-in last winter on the Canal.   We wrote a letter to the government supporting this community initiative.

Just this month, the Southwest borough announced a historic agreement between the City of  Montréal and Parks Canada agreeing to keep part of the Lachine Canal snow-free during winter.

This agreement was the result of hard work by many local officials and concerned citizens, including the Association pour la mobilité active du Canal-de-Lachine (AMACL).

Thanks to all of us, citizens can enjoy fresh air and outdoor activities all along the lovely and historic canal, at least as far as Atwater, all year round! See you at the canal!
